AstroGrep v4.4.1 Released
Posted on May 19, 2015
This release addresses an issue where unchecking the file detection option doesn't completely restore how AstroGrep worked before we added that option. Also, there is a speed decrease using this option as pointed out by a user. We are looking into the issue. With this point release and unchecking the option, AstroGrep should return to the previous speed (however, you lose file encoding detection, and that may be important to you).
AstroGrep v4.4.0 Released
Posted on May 18, 2015
This release has long been worked on. We finally updated the preview area to support some long requested user features. We added dynamic line numbers, word wrap support, viewing the entire file, and ability to view all results in a summary display. We also tweaked the display visuals some, so hopefully you like it. Checkout the readme for all the details.

Just letting everyone know we are working on v4.3.2 of AstroGrep. We have most feature requests and bugs for this version completed and are just working on some finer details of the update system.

We also fixed some bugs and added a few more feature requests. Please check the readme.txt or changelog for all changes.
AstroGrep v4.2.5 Released
Posted on October 26, 2012
Updated AstroGrep to fix an issue with the results font saving and using . for the decimal separator in Non-English languages (bug 36). Also fixed the Microsoft Word plugin issue (bug 37). Added a setting to save the search options on exit (support request 3). We apologize for causing a startup crash for some users that experienced bug 36 and any of the other issues.
AstroGrep v4.2.4 Released
Posted on October 5, 2012
Updated AstroGrep with some feature requests and bug fixes. Added a more robust exclusions dialog along with some better error handling. AstroGrep v4.2.3 Released
Posted on February 17, 2012
Small release to fix the issue where the modified before date is set to the current date on startup which can lead to missing files created after startup. We now set the date to the max date on startup. Also, when saving the search options, it will now save all of them (it was missing the file sizes and dates in the previous versions). Also, we added file size type drop downs to allow filtering by byte/KB/MB/GB instead of just bytes. With this, we now display the Size column to match what explorer shows instead of just bytes.
AstroGrep v4.2.2 Released!

Released another version with some user requests built in. Check out the news section on sourceforge to see the changelog or download the latest and read the changelog in the zip file.
AstroGrep v4.2.1 Released!
Posted on January 24, 2012
We fixed a few issues with v4.2.0 beta and released them as v4.2.1. This includes some graphic issues with the display of search settings area. Also, we fixed the version number displayed in the about dialog and for the binary file. We fixed the issue where the language you selected wasn't used on startup. A new option for the results area was added to support the back color of the result search text.

We plan on updating again in the future with a slightly newer user interface given that we are using .Net v3.5 SP1. We also are looking at adding some features requested by our users. Look for it in the future!
Bulgarian translation

Albert Ward was nice enough to translate this page into Bulgarian. Though for some reason the page only works intermittently and at other times says "page not found".
New project admin being sought
Posted on November 4, 2011
Its been awhile since any active development has been done on AstroGrep. I'm trying to find someone new to take over the project. Its not a huge project and should be manageable by a single person. Thanks for using AstroGrep all these years everyone.
Version 4.1.4 Released
Posted on September 27, 2007
This is a bug fix release to re-allow 10 context lines. It also updates the Microsoft Word plugin to handle .docx files and the 'Recurse' search option has been renamed to 'Search subfolders' for the English version.
Version 4.1.3 Released
Posted on August 21, 2007
This is a bug fix release to remove the bug reported by an anonymous user that will disable AstroGrep in a certain condition.
Version 4.1.2 Released
Posted on August 13, 2007
Well, we decided to release a maintenance release to fix a major bug that has been sitting around. All configuration files are now saved in the Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\AstroGrep\ folder. This will prevent the config files from being saved in the current directory when using the right-click search option. This release should close out all open bugs as well. Unfortunately, we were unable to work on the GTK# version of the GUI. Now that this release is done though, we can concentrate on the GTK# version and some new features that have been requested. Most of the requested features are done, but we just didn't put them into this build. (View Changelog)
Still in Development (Post 2)
Posted on July 11, 2007
We are still in the development phase for the next version. Once again we apologize for not releasing something sooner or updating cvs. We have day jobs and have been away on vacations. Hopefully something will be released within the coming months. The Linux GUI will probably not make the next build. That way we can focus on the features for this build, then have a whole build focus just for the Linux GUI. Well, back to work on AstroGrep, and once again, thanks for using AstroGrep.
Still in Development
Posted on May 30, 2007
Well, we are still working on the next version of AstroGrep. Sorry for the long delay between releases. We are trying something different with this release. First off, we are moving the language files out of the program so that you can add new ones or change them for your personal use. Second, we are moving the core search code to its own dll so that other developers can use it. Third, with these changes, we are making an installer. This lets us setup shortcuts outside of the program and also lets us setup some settings for a new feature, project files. This release will also fully support Windows Vista, and hopefully a release of the Linux client for Mono. Stay tuned and once again, thanks for using AstroGrep.
10 Years!
Posted on April 25, 2007
Ted just informed me that today marks the 10 year anniversary of AstroGrep. Yes, 10 years ago today, Ted started the project that has become AstroGrep. So a giant thanks to Ted and a happy birthday goes out to AstroGrep. Thanks for using AstroGrep and may the next 10 years be just as great as the first.
We're not dead yet.

We realize there hasn't been an update in awhile and we are sorry. We are busy with our day jobs that pay for us to work on this project for free. Anyways, we are working on fixing the outstanding bugs and some new features. Just be patient. Also, a beta release of the Linux version should finally be available using mono and gtk. Keep those language updates and new translations coming and once again thanks for using and supporting AstroGrep.
4.1.1 released!
Posted on January 26, 2007
The latest release of AstroGrep is complete. This bug release fixes an inaccurate hit count when the search text starts in the first column. Another bug fix includes not crashing when unloading plugins in Linux. Also, the Italian translation has been updated thanks to a user submitted update. Hopefully, a beta build of a Linux version will be available sometime soon. It will use Mono and GTK. Some features won't be available but the general search should work fine.
4.1.0 released!
Posted on December 21, 2006
The latest release of AstroGrep is finally here. The code has been switched over to C# which allows us to port the code to Mono easily. That separate project is under way and seems to working well. Some bug fixes and UI related cleanups make up this release. The biggest update is that all settings are saved to files instead of the registry. Also, the German translation has been updated. Enjoy the holidays.
4.0.1 coming
Posted on October 5, 2006
The latest release of AstroGrep should be coming soon. It fixes a couple of small bugs. The main difference will be internally as the source code will be completely in C#. This will allow for a port to Linux! Using Mono and Gtk, AstroGrep will eventually be able to run on Linux and in the future Mac OS X all using Mono. Hopefully a few people will find this useful. More details to come.
4.0 is here

4.0 beta coming soon!
Posted on August 18, 2006
4.0 beta is almost ready to be released. Hopefully after some more testing, we can release it next week. Some features to look forward to are all bugs are fixed, almost all feature requests are handled, and basic Microsoft Word support is available if the machine has it installed. Plus a few new features. More to come!
