AstroGrep is a Microsoft Windows grep utility. Grep is a UNIX command-line program which searches within files for keywords. AstroGrep supports regular expressions, versatile printing options, stores most recently used paths and has a "context" feature which is very nice for looking at source code.
Version 4.1.4 Released
Posted on September 27, 2007
This is a bug fix release to re-allow 10 context lines. It also updates the Microsoft Word plugin to handle .docx files and
the 'Recurse' search option has been renamed to 'Search subfolders' for the English version.
Version 4.1.3 Released
Posted on August 21, 2007
This is a bug fix release to remove the bug reported by an anonymous user that will disable AstroGrep in a certain condition.
Version 4.1.2 Released
Posted on August 13, 2007
Well, we decided to release a maintenance release to fix a major bug that has been sitting around. All configuration files
are now saved in the Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\AstroGrep\ folder. This will prevent the config files
from being saved in the current directory when using the right-click search option. This release should close out all open bugs
as well. Unfortunately, we were unable to work on the GTK# version of the GUI. Now that this release is done though, we can
concentrate on the GTK# version and some new features that have been requested. Most of the requested features are done, but we
just didn't put them into this build. (View Changelog)
Still in Development (Post 2)

We are still in the development phase for the next version. Once again we apologize for not releasing something sooner or
updating cvs. We have day jobs and have been away on vacations. Hopefully something will be released within the coming months.
The Linux GUI will probably not make the next build. That way we can focus on the features for this build, then have a
whole build focus just for the Linux GUI. Well, back to work on AstroGrep, and once again, thanks for using AstroGrep.
Still in Development

Well, we are still working on the next version of AstroGrep. Sorry for the long delay between releases. We are trying
something different with this release. First off, we are moving the language files out of the program so that you can add
new ones or change them for your personal use. Second, we are moving the core search code to its own dll so that other developers
can use it. Third, with these changes, we are making an installer. This lets us setup shortcuts outside of the program and also lets
us setup some settings for a new feature, project files. This release will also fully support Windows Vista, and hopefully a release of
the Linux client for Mono. Stay tuned and once again, thanks for using AstroGrep.
10 Years!
Posted on April 25, 2007
Ted just informed me that today marks the 10 year anniversary of AstroGrep. Yes, 10 years ago today, Ted started
the project that has become AstroGrep. So a giant thanks to Ted and a happy birthday goes out to AstroGrep. Thanks for using
AstroGrep and may the next 10 years be just as great as the first.
We're not dead yet.

We realize there hasn't been an update in awhile and we are sorry. We are busy with our day jobs that pay for us to work
on this project for free. Anyways, we are working on fixing the outstanding bugs and some new features. Just be patient.
Also, a beta release of the Linux version should finally be available using mono and gtk. Keep those language updates and
new translations coming and once again thanks for using and supporting AstroGrep.
4.1.1 released!
Posted on January 26, 2007
The latest release of AstroGrep is complete. This bug release fixes an inaccurate hit count when the search text
starts in the first column. Another bug fix includes not crashing when unloading plugins in Linux. Also, the Italian
translation has been updated thanks to a user submitted update. Hopefully, a beta build of a Linux version will be
available sometime soon. It will use Mono and GTK. Some features won't be available but the general search should work
fine.
4.1.0 released!
Posted on December 21, 2006
The latest release of AstroGrep is finally here. The code has been switched over to C# which allows us to
port the code to Mono easily. That separate project is under way and seems to working well. Some bug fixes and
UI related cleanups make up this release. The biggest update is that all settings are saved to files instead of
the registry. Also, the German translation has been updated. Enjoy the holidays.
4.0.1 coming
Posted on October 5, 2006
The latest release of AstroGrep should be coming soon. It fixes a couple of small bugs. The main difference will be
internally as the source code will be completely in C#. This will allow for a port to Linux! Using Mono and Gtk, AstroGrep will
eventually be able to run on Linux and in the future Mac OS X all using Mono. Hopefully a few people will find this
useful. More details to come.
4.0 is here

read the change log to see all the new features included in this build.
4.0 beta coming soon!
Posted on August 18, 2006
4.0 beta is almost ready to be released. Hopefully after some more testing, we can release it next week.
Some features to look forward to are all bugs are fixed, almost all feature requests are handled, and basic Microsoft
Word support is available if the machine has it installed. Plus a few new features. More to come!
