Describes the search fields and options that are available when searching.

Search

  • Search Path (the starting path(s) to being a search, use | character to separate multiple paths)
  • File Types (restrict the search to certain file types, use , or ; to separate multiple types, only simple expressions with * or ? allowed)
  • Search Text (the actual search text to search for, can be regular expression if option checked)
  • Search / Search in Results (begins a new search / searches within the current result files listed)

Search Options

  • Regular Expressions (uses the search text as a regular expression instead of plain text)
  • Case Sensitive (matches upper and lower case search text exactly)
  • Whole Word (matches search text as a whole word, not parts of a word)
  • Search subfolders (search all subfolders of the search path(s))
  • Show File Names Only (show only the names of files that have search text but don't display file contents which can be faster for larger files or a lot of files)
  • Negation (lists files that don't have the search text)
  • Line Numbers (displays the line numbers before each match)
  • Contenxt Lines (number of lines surrounding the line found to contain the search text)
  • Plugins (search plugins used to search specific/general file types)
    • Microsoft Word (our internal Word document search plugin, requires Microsoft Word installed 1997+)
    • Microsoft Word Open XML (our internal Word document search plugin, for .docx files)
    • Microsoft Excel (our internal Excel document search plugin)
    • PDF (our internal PDF document search plugin, OCR is not supported)
    • Media Tags (our internal media file tags search plugin, searches against the following tags: Title, Album, Comment, Lyrics, Conductor, Year, Composers, AlbumArtists, Genres, Performers)
    • File Handlers (our internal iFilter search plugin to use the Window's iFilter interface)
    • Specify Order (ordering the plugins will alter which plugin will be used first if both specify the same file type)
  • Exclusions (list of file/directory exclusions that restrict the searching of files/directories)
    • Add / Edit (add a new exclusion / edit an existing exclusion)
      • Category (File or Directory)
      • Type (exclusion types dependent on category selection)
          File
        • Extension (exclude based on file extension)
        • Name (exclude based on file name)
        • Path (exclude based on file path)
        • Is System (exclude files marked as system)
        • Is Hidden (exclude files marked as hidden)
        • Is Binary (exclude files that are binary)
        • Is ReadOnly (exclude files that are marked as readonly)
        • Date Modified (exclude files based on modified date)
        • Date Created (exclude files based on created date)
        • Size (exclude files based on file size)
        • Minimum Count (a minimum number of times the search text must be found in a file to be listed as a result)

          Directory
        • Name (exclude based on directory name)
        • Path (exclude based on directory path)
        • Is System (exclude directories marked as system)
        • Is Hidden (exclude directories marked as hidden)
        • Date Modified (exclude directories based on modified date)
        • Date Created (exclude directories based on modified date)
      • Value (the matching value to the type)
      • Options (equals, not equals, contains, starts with, ends with, greater than, less than, greater than equals, less than equals)
      • Ignore Case (ignores case on comparison)
    • Delete (delete the selected entries)
    • Restore Defaults (restore the default entries)
    • Clicking Enabled header will toggle all entries as enabled/disabled
